I danseforestillingen Mahal inviterer den moderne danser og koreograf Paolo de Venecia Gile sit publikum med til en dekolonialistisk genforhandling af erotik, maskulinitet og erindring på baggrund af fænomenet macho-dancing samt kendte kærlighedssange. Macho-dancing er et filippinsk fænomen, hvor mandligt kodede dansere optræder sensuelt for penge. I værket Mahal, som både betyder ”kærlighed” og ”dyrt”, bruger Paolo de Venecia Gile macho-dansens udtryk for at stille spørgsmålstegn ved dens konventioner og udvælge sine egne erindringer.
Paolo de Venecia Gile er en svensk-filippinsk kunstner, uddannet danser og koreograf fra Den Danske Scenekunstskole. Han er interesseret i migrationen og transformationen af dans gennem tiden, medier og over geografi.

In the dance performance Mahal, the modern dancer and choreographer Paolo de Venecia Gile invites his audience to a decolonialistic renegotiation of eroticism, masculinity and memories, based on the phenomenon of macho dancing and well-known love songs. Macho dancing is a Filipino phenomenon in which masculine coded dancers perform sensual dances for money. In the work Mahal, which means both ‘love’ and ‘expensive’, Paolo de Venecia Gile uses the expression of macho dance to question its conventions and select his own memories.
Paolo de Venecia Gile is a Swedish-Filipino artist, trained dancer and choreographer from the Danish School of Performing Arts. He is interested in the migration and transformation of dance through time, media and over geography.

"Mahal is my first solo work to come out of a self-healing practice that circled close to macho dancing. However, I have asked questions about the history and love stories of dance. The work strikes an erotic atmosphere that invites laughter, sweat, nostalgia and curiosity. Mahal is a Filipino word with a double meaning: "love" and "expensive"."
